TIPM Installation Instructions - AUTO101

Before You Begin

Read through the steps before starting. Confirm the replacement TIPM is correct for your order and have the required sockets and screwdriver ready. Take a photo of the original connections. Keep your original TIPM until installation is complete. Follow any vehicle-specific instructions supplied with your order.

🔧 STEP 1 – PREP VEHICLE

  • Turn off ignition
  • Remove key

Wait 5 full minutes

Step 2 — Disconnect Battery & Hard Reset

Follow the vehicle’s battery-disconnection instructions. Disconnect chargers, jump packs, and other external power first. On vehicles with an auxiliary or second battery, all battery power must be isolated before joining cable ends; ask us if you are unsure.

  • Disconnect negative (-) battery terminal first
  • Then disconnect positive (+)
  • After BOTH vehicle battery cables are completely disconnected, secure their metal cable ends together with a zip tie so they touch. Keep them clear of both battery posts. Never join the battery posts themselves.
  • Leave the disconnected cable ends together for five minutes while you prepare for installation.

🔧 STEP 3 – REMOVE OLD TIPM

  • With battery power disconnected, disconnect the TIPM power cable and release its mounting clips or bolts.
  • Release each connector’s locking tab or slider before opening its lever. Unplug gently; do not force the connectors.
  • Keep track of any clips or brackets

🔧 STEP 4 – INSTALL NEW TIPM

  • Inspect the connectors for bent pins or corrosion, then connect each harness to its matching socket.
  • Bolt it down if needed
  • Double-check that plugs are fully seated, levers are closed, and locking sliders are secured. Reconnect the TIPM power cable and close the lid before reconnecting the battery.

🔋 STEP 5 – RECONNECT BATTERY

  • Remove the zip tie and separate the cable ends before reconnecting anything.
  • Connect positive (+) first
  • Then connect negative (-)
  • Tighten terminals

Step 6 — Soft Reset Before First Start

After installation, complete the ignition-on cycle before starting the engine. Follow vehicle-specific instructions if they differ.

Vehicles With an Ignition Key

  1. Turn the key to RUN/ON with the engine OFF. Do not crank.
  2. Leave it ON for 2 minutes (120 seconds).
  3. Turn OFF and remove the key, then start normally.

Push-Button Start Vehicles

  1. Keep your foot off the brake and select RUN/ON, engine OFF. This commonly takes two button presses; confirm RUN on your dashboard.
  2. Wait 2 minutes (120 seconds) without starting.
  3. Switch the ignition OFF, then start normally using the brake pedal.

After Installation

  • Check the lights, wipers, locks, and other functions affected by the original issue.
  • If new warning lights appear, you can repeat the soft reset. For another hard reset, turn the vehicle OFF and repeat the battery isolation, cable-end reset, and reconnection steps above, then perform the soft reset again. If the issue remains, let us know—we’re happy to help.
  • For connection checks, turn the ignition OFF and disconnect battery power before unplugging the TIPM. Check connector locks, the power connection, and that fuses are seated.
  • Keep a note of any fault codes and whether the symptoms are the same as before or new. Some vehicles may need configuration assistance; contact us for the next step.
